About
Mireille Botros is a British-Egyptian self-taught painter based in Saltaire, Yorkshire. An emerging artist, she explores the relationship between human emotion, colour, and the expressive form. Working primarily in oils, she uses vibrant tones to paint her subjects, mainly portraits and figures, though she occasionally paints still life or animals when she feels like. Her work conveys personal narratives and moments of vulnerability, aiming to resonate through shared feeling and emotional honesty. Mireille’s intuitive use of colour captures mood and energy, transforming lived experiences into emotive, relatable imagery. She has exhibited in Cairo, Saltaire, and Halifax, and aspires to continue exhibiting across the UK and internationally. Community plays a vital role in her practice. She is the founder of Creative Social Saltaire, a monthly gathering of artists and creatives that nurtures connection, support, and artistic growth.
Disillusioned by her career-driven life in London, Mireille took a break from her banking career to travel and reflect on her true passions. During this period of exploration, she discovered an untapped talent for art, which had gone unrecognized during her first 30 years.
Her artistic journey began in 2020 when she joined a Charcoal Drawing Course in Leeds. Later that year, she studied in Florence, Italy, where encouragement from her professor inspired her to deepen her artistic exploration. In 2021, Mireille pursued a short oil painting course in Cairo, Egypt, where the self-taught artist Yehia Osama and a supportive community of painters encouraged her to embrace painting professionally.
Mireille’s journey as a self-taught artist reflects her courage to break free from societal expectations, her curious nature to embrace creativity, and build a life centered on passion and artistic expression.
